songs you can sing along with
Just coz a song’s lyrics AREN’T reprehensible and vile does NOT automatically mean I want the thing stuck in my head. Though we all know it WILL be, since pop producers are quite talented at transforming a sweet and lilting, INNOCENT melody into a RAGING addiction that won’t leave (me alone for weeks. Surely I’m not the only one with this prob? Hmph.)
Anywhoodle, way, WAY back in the day–back when I was teaching on an Air Force Base by day, and the local Junior College by night, aka like 2002 or something, I needed something to perk me up, and “LORD, I Lift Your NAME On High!” wasn’t doing the trick (I do love that song, tho, btw).
Long story short, I ended up rewriting “Louie, Louie” as “Pep Rally,” which said:
"It's NOT a good day
Unless I PRAY
and have a PEP RALLEYYY
(Ai yai yai yai)"
That first song took only minutes to write and minutes to record. As dorky as my poor arrangement/orchestration was, I was HOOKED and immediately began to pray for inspiration as to what other chart-toppers I could “fix.”
Several years later, I’d “re-written” over 300, but only recorded a handful of them parodies. Most were about God or my own faith or even dialogues between Our ALMIGHTY and MAGICAL Creator, and the Work Of Those Strong and Tender Hands Which Wrought us all ❤
Some, however, were more about social issues or philosophy or apologetics, even. We’ve stitched together several from each passel, creating two different “Interactive Goth Rap Operatic Experiences” (aka Experimental Bricolage Musicals”).
As of now, we’ve been on extended hiatus from this project, in favour of recording original songs (mostly to do, again, with the aforementioned topics). That said, we’ve released one album, several EPs, and a songbook, though, sadly, only the former is still available. You can listen HERE and watch above or HERE ❤
